A Review by Wez Brown, Branch
Chairman
It has been just over 2 weeks
since the beer festival has finished and I still can't believe how successful it
was. We started this year's festival with a new Thursday lunch time session that
was very popular with lots of people attending. Given that they had to choose
from 85 beers ranging from 38 counties from over the British Isles plus 2 beers
from Dwan in Ireland and 1 beer from Brasserie de la Soif in France there was a
few happy faces around the festival.

A good representation went to our local breweries and these were well received.
Once again the ever popular Melbourne Catering were present serving their German
delights and French crepes.
Foreign beer was at the best we have had it in resent years with 11 Belgium
beers, 20 German, 3 Latvian, 1 American and 1 from Australia. These were all
greeted with open arms by the lovers of overseas beers (my favourites are the
German beers).

Thursday night saw Mick the Tick and friends perform on the floor shortly after
the judging of the speciality beer of the year award took place on the stage
with the gold crown being given to Titanic Iceberg.
After a successful Thursday the festival just got better and better with a very
enjoyable lunch time for all followed by an evening session with entertainment
provided by local band Back in Time back for their second year playing hits from
the 50's, 60's and 70's with most people enjoying them with some asking to see
them back next year (watch this space).
An enormous amount of beer was sold on the Friday night but to ensure a
successful festival we needed a good lunchtime session, we were not
disappointed. So much so we went onto have the best Saturday night we have had
in years. Thanks must go to the Aston
Students Guild for their continued support, to all the volunteers for working
the festival, some giving up annual leave. Without the volunteers this festival
could not happen. And finally, YOU, without you it would be pointless putting in
the annual leave request form to the gaffa. Cheers !
