Pub Of The Year 2005 The Wellington in Bennetts Hill has won the Birmingham CAMRA Pub of the Year award. The award was presented to the Licencee, Nigel Barker, on Thursday 26th January. The pub stocked a staggering 2610 different real ales during 2005 and is continuing this trend during 2006. There are also a range of traditional ciders on sale at the pub. On the evening of the presentation, the pub was about to start its 4th beer festival, which saw a range of ales on stillage, as well as the normal selection on handpull.
The award was presented by Clive Walder, CAMRA Birmingham Chairman during the lunchtime press session, although the main presentation was still to be made at the evening session.
The 'real' presentation was made at the evening session, just three hours into the pub's beer festival. The packed house came to order just after 8pm to recognise what has been an incredible achievement, having opened just over a year before. In the evening both Nigel and business manager Dave Moorhouse were on hand to accept the award. The beer festival section was staffed by local CAMRA members and made for a great range of ales available in one place. There were beers from brewers such as Beowulf, Bazens and Kinver. © Richard Reynolds, 2006 |
