Birmingham Pubs Threatened by Redevelopment

The constant redevelopment of the City Centre means that pubs in run-down areas and those  needing refurbishment are constantly under threat. There are a number of pubs in Birmingham, which are grade II listed and some grade II*. CAMRA aims to preserve these architectural gems and opposes attempts to change or demolish them.

This page features pubs which are known to be under threat.

The latest pub which has an uncertain future is the Fox & Grapes, Freeman Street. Although it has not sold real ale for some years, the pub is a listed building and CAMRA Birmingham will be monitoring progress on this.

There are also concerns over the future of the Bellefield in Winson Green. This pub has been closed for some time and has in the past sold real ale.

Pubs which have not survived include the Tilt Hammer in Saltley and the Hagley Duck, which is to be redeveloped. The Gothic in Great Hampton Street is no longer a pub, but remains intact as a building.

We can only hope that this and other dormant pubs will one day be reopened, as has happened with the Woodman in Albert Street.
