First CAMRA 40 Ale Trail Completed

The CAMRA 40 pubs, 40 ales trail was started on March 16th 2011 to celebrate CAMRA’s 40th birthday. People could pick up a empty passport and then over the next 40 days had the opportunity to visit 40 pubs across the city selling real ale. Prizes are awarded to people managing to visit all 40 pubs (with a t-shirt awarded to those only managing 30).
Well just 9 days after the trail was launched on Friday 25th March the first full passport was completed by Mike Perkins- myself (unsurprisingly, especially to those who know me).

Happy St Patrick’s / Guinness Day

St Patricks Day
Well it’s that time of year again when English people with absolutely no genetic tie to Ireland (although many of my friends insist they are all of a sudden a quarter-Irish) decide to go out and drink copious amounts of Guinness even though they never drink ‘the black stuff’ any other time of the year.

Why do we do this? Is it because we enjoy celebrating our neighbour’s proud heritage? Is it because with the large Irish community in Birmingham we like to show them how welcome they are? Or is it just because many people just need an excuse to go out and get completely blind drunk on a Thursday without being labelled a raving pisshead (not a concern I’ve ever had if I’m honest).

CAMRA is 40 Today!

CAMRA 40 LogoCAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, named the “Most successful consumer campaign in Europe” by Lord Young in the mid 1970s, will don a party hat and raise a toast as the organisation celebrates its 40th birthday today, Wednesday March 16th.

While the UK beer and pub industry may have changed much over the last 40 years, CAMRA today lifts its glass with no intention of hanging it up, particularly at a time of marked change in the industry.
