Branch Chairman Statement
After Consultation with some of the Branch Committee a decision was taken by the Branch Chairman, Mark Delaney, to withdraw the Rising Star Award for the Brown Lion.
The reasons for withdrawal are as follows:
The Brown Lion was selected for the "Rising Star" award, along with the Drop Forge.
The Pub manager (Joe Roberts) and the staff are very important parts of the making of a rising star establishment.
The current manager and all his staff have left the Brown Lion.
It was not considered appropriate to make this award to anyone else other than Joe and his staff.
The view was taken that if the award was to be received by new staff not directly involved in the original rising star nomination then the pub did not qualify for the award.
This is the same criteria for pub landlord changes in the Good Beer Guide. If a landlord changes the entry in the GBG is removed.
The withdrawal was not mean to be a snub to Two Towers Brewery nor to alienate anyone at the Brewery. We have always had a great relationship with the Brewery. We hope our relationship can continue as it was before this unfortunate incident.
The decision was made very quickly to meet publication deadlines and we hope that this is a one off event and will not happen again.
It was also not the way we usually like do business.
