Young Members
Are you between 18-30? Or do you just feel young at heart?!
What ever is the case, this page is dedicated to the thriving group that is
CAMRA young members. With over 6% of the total national membership being aged
between 18 - 30 years old, it is time for us Young Members to stand up, be
counted and raise our glasses high in the air!
Yet what exactly do we do?!
Well apart from supporting Birmingham CAMRA at monthly branch meetings and going
on pub fact finding missions on Mondays, we run our own pub crawls, visit
breweries, drink at beer festivals, work at beer festivals [with other Young
Members at other branches] and generally do any other social activity involving
drinking ale! It is that simple.

How are we organised?
CAMRA branches around the country will have a Branch Young Members Contact [BYMC].
It is his or hers duty to ensure that the branch considers the needs of young
members when planning campaigns and social events. Also it is their duty to get
like minded young members more involved with the branch. These BYMCs communicate
with both regional and national Young Members Contacts, to keep informed about
what everyone is doing and to keep CAMRA HQ in check. Finally over seeing all
this is the Young Members Group that deals with any issue involving young people
with CAMRA; be it about working socials at beer festivals or liaising with
universities.
Who is the Birmingham branch Young Members Contact?
Your Birmingham branch YMC is me; Joe Roberts. I am a 21 year old post-graduate
student, who works in a real ale pub in the city centre. Also I am currently the
chairman of the Young Members Group, working to get more young people involved
with CAMRA. On a side note I am also President of the University of Birmingham
‘Real Ale & Wine Society’.

What happens from here?
If you are currently not a CAMRA member [and why not?!] then it is easy to join.
For all young people under 26 years old, the full UK membership rate of £18 per
annum is reduced to only £10! If you join by Direct Debit, you’ll get 15 months
membership for the price of 12. Further discounted rates are available if you're
a member of a University Real Ale Society. Just pick up a leaflet or visit the
CAMRA website.
If you are already a member, or not and still want to get more involved, the
best way to be kept informed is by either looking at the
Branch Diary on this website, joining the
Birmingham CAMRA mailing list, our own
google
group, or even our facebook
group!

If you would like to contact me personally about any issues from Birmingham
CAMRA, to campaigns, to young member’s involvement, then don’t hesitate to do
so.
My email is: young_members@<REMOVE>birminghamcamra.org.uk. Remember to delete
the <REMOVE> bit.
Looking forward to seeing you at any of our events, cheers!
